Dr Mary Cardosa is a Visiting Pain Consultant at Hospital Selayang, Selangor, Malaysia. She has done pioneering work in developing Pain services in Malaysia, and was responsible for initiating the implementation of "Pain as the 5th VItal Sign" and the “Pain Free Program” in the Malaysian Ministry of Health. She set up a Multidisciplinary Pain Clinic in Selayang Hospital, Malaysia, in 2000 and started the first CBT-based pain management program in the same hospital in 2002. She has been active in pain education for healthcare professionals in Malaysia as well as other Southeast Asian countries for many years. Dr Cardosa is the President of the Malaysian Association for the Study of Pain (MASP) and Secretary of ASEAPS. She was a Council member of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) for 8 years (2014-2022), serving as Secretary for the last two years.
